PROJECT ONE

Book initiative: "A Novel Cause"
Sierra Leone faces a daunting challenge in literacy among its children.
According to UNESCO, the country's literacy rate for youth (ages 15-24) is approximately 63% (UNESCO Institute for Statistics, 2020). However, this number drops significantly for children under 18, with many struggling to access quality education and basic literacy skills.
According to the World Bank, in 2019, only about 62% of children in Sierra Leone were enrolled in primary school, and many of these students lack access to essential learning materials, including textbooks (World Bank, 2020).
The consequences of illiteracy are far-reaching. Children who struggle with literacy are more likely to fall behind in school, drop out, and face limited career opportunities. This, in turn, perpetuates cycles of poverty and hinders national development.
Our charity program aims to address this issue by providing access to free books to help promote and build literacy.
PROJECT TWO

Backpack initiative: "Packed for Success"
In Sierra Leone, many children lack the necessary resources to attend school, hindering their access to education. In 2019, the World Bank found that 35% of children reported that lack of resources as a reason for not attending school (World Bank, 2020).
A significant number of children do not have access to essential learning materials, including textbooks, uniforms, and stationery. According to UNICEF, 61% of children in Sierra Leone live in poverty, which can limit their access to these basic necessities (UNICEF, 2020). Without these resources, children are more likely to struggle in school, leading to poor academic performance and increased dropout rates.
The lack of individual resources can have a profound impact on a child's ability to attend school. Without access to basic necessities, children may feel stigmatised or embarrassed, leading to decreased motivation and attendance.
Our charity program aims to address this issue by providing individual children with free backpacks containing the necessary resources to attend school, including books, uniforms, and stationery.
